Promoting Art between North-South in 2001

(19.06.2011)

Small beginnings can become something greater. After water colour paintings by artist Dimitri Fedotov had been shown and sold in some galleries and banks in Germany, we were asked by the community of Nettersheim back in 2001 if the Peru-Aid was able to convey a painter for wall paintings from Peru to their project ( a youth hostel in their natur conversation centre) which is supported by UNESCO institutions and which was awarded with a first prize.

What has become out of this project is visible in the wall paintings which were created by Dimitri Fedotov abd Brele Scholz. The challenge was to represent the problem of environmental protection to children and teenagers between 8-10 years who visit this youth hostel with their grade of school. At the same time tolerance towards other cultures and people is brought forward. In six weeks time four floors in the stairway were painted with more than 70 square metre of acrylic colour. The topic was men and nature.. Peru's nature was chosen with motives like rainforest, desert and the Andes. In this landscape a little futuristic man was integrated who stands for mankind in a high-tech age and its longings.

He exhibition has been such a success that it was planned to do another project in Peru.
Unfortunately our Peruvian friend Dimitri Fedotov died at the age of 74, but we are still in
contact with his wife Grimanesa Wiese.
